The Morning 10 Fri, Aug 7, 2026 ~90 seconds 08:00 CET
Two things happened between Thursday's close and this morning that point in opposite directions, and holding both is the day's work. Cloudflare and Twilio reported after the bell and trade up 16.2% and 17.0% pre-market — strong revenue growth, bought hard, twenty-four hours after Datadog lost 19.0% on a beat-and-raise in the same business neighbourhood.
That resolves the week's natural experiment: the punishment phase prices the entry, not the area. And while software was being repriced name by name, IEF closed at 92.95, four cents off its session low, through the ascending line off the late-2023 low that this desk has now named four sessions running. The break is real and it is also marginal — measured in cents, on the eve of a payrolls print whose forecasts run from 18,000 to 83,000. The widest jobs dispersion in recent memory lands directly on a freshly broken bond line at 12:30 UTC. Everything else on the board is positioning detail until that number prints.

The Midday 10 Fri, Aug 7, 2026 ~60 seconds 12:30 ET
The widest payrolls dispersion in memory resolved below its lowest estimate: minus 23,000 jobs, the first negative print of the cycle, against a consensus of 80,000. Bonds bid within the hour, IEF reclaimed the two-year line it broke by four cents on Thursday, and the equity tape took soft labor as the end of the hiking path — with the software names the punishment phase spent all week selling now leading the market higher.
as of ~12:25 ET, Friday 7 August
IEF trades 93.11, up 0.2%, having touched 93.32 — back through the two-year trendline it closed below by four cents on Thursday. The framework said the jobs number would arbitrate the break within hours, and it did: bond bid inside the hour, line reclaimed. The break is void unless the close gives it back.
Payrolls fell 23,000 in July against a consensus of +80,000 — below even Vanguard's 18,000, the street's lowest number. Government jobs fell 53,000, private added just 30,000 against 78,000 expected. Unemployment 'improved' to 4.1% only because participation fell to 61.4; wages rose 0.1% on the month, 3.2% on the year. Soft enough to end the hike conversation — which is exactly why the tape is green.
TWLO
TWLO trades 252.81, up 30.9%, having printed a fresh 52-week high at 254.50. The perfect record that entered its print 19.6% below the high is being paid 31% by midday — the natural experiment's discount entry, rewarded at maximum volume. The reaction score locks at the close.
